Finding impossibly rare skill sets and experience needed in travel recruitment

Travel companies have high expectations. And, it’s not easy searching for the rare skills coupled with specialist travel experience if you are hiring directly or using a recruitment consultancy. Some of our recent, almost impossible, searches for perfection have included:

Travel tech company looking for Business Development Manager (West London)

Person must have experience selling to the hotel AND car hire industry, as well as good knowledge of GDS systems.

It’s easy to find someone experienced selling to either hotels, or car hire companies, but it’s very rare to find both. This coupled with a general lack of understanding of GDS systems made this a difficult search.

—TMC looking for MICE Manager (Birmingham)

We’ve been looking for 6 months, unsuccessfully. Location is a problem as we’re outside Birmingham, with no other TMC’s near by. We also need someone with business travel experience, and MICE skills (not just events).

—Leading, global TMC looking for Bid Writer (London)

Person must have English or History degree, and at least 2 years bid experience.

Bid writers are hard to find at the best of times. Yet we sourced three great candidates. All were interviewed. An English MSc graduate with 18 months’ bid experience was hired.
