Job Description: 

The Lead Product Owner is a pivotal role that bridges between the digital products that support and enable our business, the proposition team, and the delivery of the backlogs items for the next 3-6 month and on-going roadmap. The Lead Digital Product Owner is responsible for leading and managing the team of Product Owners who maintain the digital product stack. 

The Lead Product Owner is responsible for being the overall voice of the suite of digital products that support the propositions to our customers and partners both online and offline.  They work with the Proposition team to shape and prioritise the overall backlog of work for the Product Owners to work.  They also support the Product Owners by working with appropriate stakeholders on the go-to-market plans.  The Lead Product Owner is responsible for the management of their stack’s P&L and works with finance/PMO etc on the budgetary management and planning for their proposition(s).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Performance Management - working with the members of their team it is expected they will lead and create a highly motivated team.  They will do this by defining clear team and personal objectives and creating people development plans which have motivational stretch targets, but also using their people management skills and utilising appropriate tools such as 1-2-1, performance reviews, reward and recognition, etc
  • Product Planning – working with the Proposition team in order to help the product owner team to prioritise the user stories the teams need to focus on, but also feeding back to proposition team if there are any considerations for the proposition roadmap.
  • Managing Digital Roadmap – to co-ordinate an overview of the backlog and roadmap deliveries and delivery a Digital Product Roadmap that can be shared with the business.
  • Product backlog Co-ordination – Where a product requirement from the proposition team covers multiple product owners coordinating the interdependent user stories for delivery.
  • Liaison Technology – working with the various technical teams including but not limited to Delivery Manager, Testing, Head of Product Delivery, Technical Director, Architecture, Infrastructure, Project management manager as appropriate to ensure it is clear on the vision and the roadmap expectations of what is to be delivered.
  • Attend Agile Ceremonies – attendance of appropriate agile ceremonies is expected in order to support the product delivery and Product Owners as appropriate.
  • Go-to-market support - working with key stakeholders to support the overarching go to market activities for the digital product stack and supporting the product owner team as appropriate. 
  • Governance – working with the PMO to ensure any governance is managed accordingly in respect to product delivery.
  • Process Improvement – the Lead Product Owner is expected to work with their peers look to improve processes and mentor the Product Owner team in striving for excellence.
  • Management reporting – providing necessary management reports on team and product delivery performance, roadmap and P&L.
  • Customer Centric & Business Value – As a lead PO  it is important at all times items worked on by the team are focused on to be desirable by the customer and solve the problem with the best go-to-market value in mind.  Therefore, the team will ensure feature is measured against an agreed success criteria.
