Job Description: 

Senior Developer (Java) – Permanent – Bristol

Our client is a leading technology company and looking for a Senior Developer to work in their UK Head office based in Bristol with expertise in Java, API, JUnit, XML, JSON and GIT.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience




  • A 2:1 or above in a Software Development related discipline
  • Good practical core Java coding ability
  • Confident debugging skills
  • Good problem solving ability
  • Ability to code software according to published standards and design guidelines
  • Good written and spoken communication skills
  • Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure
  • A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work
  • Ability to work well within a team




  • Experience of working in an Agile development structure and process
  • Knowledge of XML and JSON based web-services
  • Experience of using JUnit
  • Experience of the Eclipse and/or IntelliJ development environments
  • Experience of using Git or other revision control
  • Familiarity with Hibernate and Spring
  • Knowledge of database architecture and design

Key Responsibilities:


  • Perform development work including scheduled project work to the highest standards of code quality and to deadline
  • Interpret written business requirements, functional and technical specification documents
  • Participate in quoting meetings for new scheduled work
  • Write functional specifications from business requirements documents for project based work
  • Write technical design documentation from functional specifications
  • Review technical design documentation produced by other team members – aid where necessary in document creation, for example in use of UML
  • Manage other team members on small projects where needed – leading design and reviewing code
  • Participate in the advancement of the FAB codebase, toolset and processes
  • Perform code reviews, advising junior members and peers on best practice, potential for unit testing/refactoring, etc.
  • Perform tutoring and/or presentations for more junior team members in areas such as code design, toolset use or general development best practice as required
  • Perform maintenance programming and correction of identified defects
  • Perform assigned quality control rota duties
  • Adhere to team technical standards
  • Follow best practice and process
  • Perform related duties as assigned
