Strategic Supplier Specialist (Airlines Payment) ref: J449

Job Description: 

Due to rapid growth our client is looking for a Strategic Supplier Specialist with strong supplier management background preferably with in Air, Accommodation and B2B Payment industry.

The purpose of the role:

You will be responsible for building & driving strategy of supplier management across Europe.  Although airlines will be the initial & key focus of the role, it is intended to expand the remit further to include more supplier verticals including hospitality, cruise, ground transportation & rail at a later date.

  • Manage & build relationships with client’s key card suppliers (acceptors/merchants), including airlines, hotels, car hire firms, rail companies & cruise companies.
  • Build & project manage Europe’s strategy around supplier management – how to get in front of them & educate them around card propositions.
  • Provide constant messaging to key supplier base in order to portray key benefits of card acceptance.
  • Negotiate pricing deals with suppliers (using existing card products or bilateral service agreements) in order to protect & retain revenue globally.
  • Liaise & strategise with airline associations including IATA & ARC.
  • Provide detailed & regular feedback to the commercial team on progress with suppliers & trends in the industry.
  • Provide feedback to the Product group when there is a requirement for new products or interchange levels.
  • Attend regular supplier events in order to network & grow supplier contact base.
  • Provide support to work with IATA on Transparency in Payments (TIP).
  • Work closely with the sales & relationship management teams in Europe in order to keep an open feedback loop on how suppliers are trending.  This will include attending prospect & client meetings to gain client support & provide updates on suppliers globally.
  • Work with & manage external consultancy firms working on supplier management projects.

Required background:

  • Strong supplier or supplier management background.
  • Deep level of understanding of the corporate or consumer card/payment/acquiring industry.
  • European exposure and additional European languages (especially Spanish and Italian) would be a bonus.
  • Experience of the airline industry, preferably working within or alongside an airlines, in particular, insight into the cash management of airlines for incoming payments from various travel agency sources (online & offline)
  • As a strategic thinker you will be able to demonstrate a high level of business acumen and the ability to identify and act upon emerging trends.


Location, based from home and regular visit to central London office as well as traveling to suppliers sites.
