Product Manager - B2B Payment - Travel Domain ref: J360

Job Description: 

As part of the Product team this role is responsible for the ownership and pro-active management of payment products in the travel marketplace.  You will be the key interface in the commercial team between the market being served and the broader Product Delivery and Technology teams, responsible for defining and owning the roadmap for payment products and propositions in the travel market, including identification of fixes / enhancements as well as building out a more comprehensive product roadmap in this area.

You will also be responsible for maintaining a detailed understanding of the external market being served including a comprehensive view of the competitive environment.  The role will also involve acting as back-up to other Product Managers responsible for products supporting wider B2B payment flows.

 

Key Responsibilities

Define and own the product strategy and roadmap for payment solutions in the travel vertical (50%)

  • Define Point Of Departure across product set and define Point of Arrival and Product Roadmap to meet customer needs
  • Develop Travel Payment Product line strategy to identify key gaps and optimisation opportunities to drive growth and cost reduction
  • Develop Customer Value Proposition for sales and account development organisation in both the Travel Payments fields with tailoring for different user groups including OTAs, 3rd Party Tech Providers, Banks, Marketplaces etc.
  • Build and maintain analysis into competitors and adjacent industries and actively track key trends in Travel, Payments and the broader regulatory landscapes.

 Act as the interface between the market and delivery functions (15%)

  • Maintain regular engagement and interface with market facing-teams (Business Development / Relationship Management).
  • Capture insights from market / client base to inform decision-making on product enhancements and longer term product development needs.
  • Work with the marketing team to define and execute targeted marketing activity to build market awareness and drive travel payment leads.
  • Feedback to market-facing teams product delivery plans / priorities to ensure clear understanding of product plans, seek feedback and course-correct as required.

Act as the voice of travel product within the organisation and the marketplace (15%)

  • Be recognised as the SME for travel payments within the organisation.  Act as an advocate for travel products to inform and engage the wider business behind the product strategy and how is delivers benefits to clients.
  • Build a profile in the external marketplace as a Travel Payment SME, through thought-leadership and attendance / representation at relevant conferences and events.

Support the Sales Process by assisting the Business Development Managers build client proposals for travel payment opportunities (15%)

  • Accompany BDMs on key customer engagements and support best and final presentations with detailed product knowledge.
  • In partnership with Professional Services assist in developing customer proposals that answer the clients pain points.
  • Constantly review the pricing strategy for travel payment products, services and delivery models paying particular attention to gross margin.

Provide back-up cover to other Product Managers in the Product Team (5%)

  • Build a working understanding of other products and maintain dialogue with other Product Managers to ensure business resilience and coverage between products.
  • Support other Product Managers in understanding the Travel Payment product set.
  • Share best practice and insights with the Product group, including Product Managers and Product Delivery function.

Ideal background:

Essential

  • Experience of owning and managing payment products – proven track record of managing a product end to end
  • Understanding of core product management methodologies, including some exposure to AGILE approaches.
  • Numeric / analytical / commercial awareness
  • Highly effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills; articulate & concise in written and verbal communications
  • Expertise in communication, both Colleague and Customer
  • Actively collaborative; able and willing to share best practice
  • Proven influencing and relationship management skills and ability to balance and manage diverse stakeholder interest
  • Experienced stakeholder management with strong personal impact
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic organisation with highly matrixed processes and functions.
  • Positive attitude, with commitment enthusiasm and appetite for change

Preferred

  • Travel Payments Industry experience would be highly desirable
  • Understanding of broad payment infrastructure and underlying processes.
  • Experience of project management principles and evidence of application of these principles.
  • Experience of supporting sales teams in preparation of bid responses and presentation to end user clients.
  • Knowledge of technology trends and confident in applying these to future developments in payments.
